THE federal government has released dates the reopening of airports for operations in the country beginning with Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International in Abuja airports scheduled to resume flight operations from next week.
The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika who made the disclosure few hours ago said the reopening would be in phases.
According to the Minister, while Lagos and Abuja airports will reopen on 8th of July, the Port Harcourt, Owerri and Maiduguri airports will reopen to flights on the 11th of July, while other airports across the country will join on the 15th of July.
However, international flights for passengers traveling out of the country are still on hold.
“I am glad to announce that Abuja & Lagos airports will resume domestic operations on the 8th of July, 2020. Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri & Maiduguri to resume on the 11th. Other airports on the 15th. Date for international to be announced in due course. Bear with us, please.
“Passengers looking to travel out of the country will have to wait a bit longer as the dates for the restart of international flights into and out of the country will be announced later”, the minister said.
The Minister used the opportunity to thank stakeholders in the aviation industry and indeed the Nigerian public who have had to cope with the adverse effects of the flight suspension for their perseverance and cooperation in ensuring a successful return of operations at the nation’s airports.
