Following investigation on the incidents at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos recently, the National Broadcasting Station (NBC) has sanctioned three major broadcast stations over their alleged roles in escalation of violence across the nation .
The regulators fined Arise TV, African Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television between N2million and N3million.
The stations were accused of airing unverified images of the alleged shooting.
The stations are accused of inciting the public which led the protest which began on a peaceful note to go violence, with many states experience wanton destruction and looting of public and private properties.
Since the reports of numerous killings which has been tagged ‘Lekki massacre’, it is still shocking that no family is yet to indicate loss of a family member through gunshots by the military as alleged.
Similarly, no morgues in the state has shown that remains of the shot citizens were deposited in their facilities which has raised critical questions whether some persons deliberately posted fake videos accusing military of shooting innocent citizens.
A movie star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who also witnessed the protest at Lekki tollgate has presented a different account suggesting that no such killings took place by fabricated videos to incite the public as propagandas.
