Anambra CP restricts Police on enforcing face mask order

THE Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Mr. John Abang has prohibited his men from arresting violators of the face mask order and other preventive measures put in place by the state government in conjunction with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Haruna disclosed this in a news update on Wednesday stating that the Commissioner directed the officers of the Command to concentrate on serious security challenges noting that the other law enforcement agencies including Ochai Brigade, ATMA and other civil taskforce are capable of handling the Covid-19 order and enforcement.  

“Police should not arrest violators of face masks rather Ochai Brigade, Atma and other Civil task force shall enforce compliance. This is to enable Police focus on more serious security challeges”. CP Abang said.

However, the Police Commissioner appeals to citizens within the Command to willingly comply to ensure everybody’s safety in the overall interest of the society.
