Buhari extols Atiku, others, assures impact

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has extolled former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and other Nigerians that have shown concerns toward the fight of the dreadful coronavirus which is on rapid increase since it was detected in the country.

President Buhari made the commendation albeit in general during his broadcast to the nation on Sunday over the coronavirus epidemic. Atiku donated the sum of N50 million on behalf of his Priam group toward the fight against spread of coronavirus.

“We are very grateful to see the emerging support of the private sector and individuals to the response as well as our development partners. 

“At this point, I will ask that all contributions and donations be coordinated and centralized to ensure efficient and impactful spending. The Presidential Task Force remains the central coordinating body on the COVID-19 response.

“I want to assure you all that Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies with a role to play in the outbreak response are working hard to bring this virus under control”, Buhari stated.

Others are chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Femi Otedola; a business guru, Herbert Wigwe, Segun Agbaje, Jim Ovia, Aliko Dangote who under the category of the Private Sector Coalition against Covid-19 donated N1billion each on behalf of their groups toward the fight of the epidemics. The groups are Forte Oil, Access Bank, GTBank, and Zenith Bank and Dangote Group respectfully. Tony Elumelu’s UBA group donated N5billion to both Nigeria and entire Africa.

Other donors are Modupe and Folorunsho Alakija; chairman and vice-chairman of Famfa Oil respectfully with a sum of N1billion while a renowned music artiste, Tuface Idibia donated N10 million. The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu donated a sum of N200 million.

First Bank of Nigeria is however partnering with government and other stakeholders to extend needed supports to the society toward curbing the spread of the coronavirus. According to reports, the synergy will put in place robust interventions in education to support students and minimize the negative effects resulting from schools closure.
