Group condemns Shiites violent activities, calls for caution

A Non-government organization, Green Nigeria Project (GNP) has condemned the violent activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in the federal capital territory over detention of their leader, Sheik El-Zakzaky which led to the death of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Usman Umar, a staff of Channels TV and unconfirmed members of Shiites alongside two Assistant Superintendents of Police that sustained serious injuries.

The violent protesters also razed down a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Response station within the Federal Secretariat environs and vehicles.

The group in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja through its National Security Director, Comrade Usman Tanze Danjuma while condemning the ugly incidents called on the sponsors of the youths to have a rethink in the interests of the nation.

Danjuma, who is a security analyst recalled that the arrest and detention of El-Zakzaky was necessitated by the same act of attacking and killing security operatives on duty earlier which provoked the federal government to insist that factual justice cannot allow the person that masterminded and spearheaded the acts to be enjoying freedom with his family while that of the deceased officers left behind are in great loss, sorrows and pains.

“Police and all other security agencies are tools earmarked for the President in safeguarding lives and properties. Hence, when security operatives are attacked violently let alone killed, it is an affront and indirect threat to the office of the President.

“No good leader will sit and fold hands when his workforces are without restraint massacred and without any iota of remorse. Hence, President Muhammadu Buhari is merely preventing further ugly incidents under national security from the quarters knowing that the culprits could leverage on the weak legal system to advance in their filthy acts since bails are always foreseeable irrespective of deeds done to the society.

“Again, the President believably is trying to console the bereaved families in pains and losses as well as encourage his security teams that their lives are valuable to him and the nation at large in the course of discharging their statutory duties. In other words, critics of the government should put themselves in the shoes o f Mr. President”, Tanze Danjuma said.

He added that the legal justice system requires urgent reviews towards bringing about social justice as the tactical endless adjournments particularly in prosecutions makes it difficult for victims to get justice while the accused simply secures bails and moves around freely emphasizing that some criminal matters have fingered in the courts for over a decade.
